Measurement FAQ

How are our necklaces measured?

Our necklaces are measured fully stretched out from end to end.  When the measurements are taken, they include the clasp and where the clasp actually sits when assembled.  For example, in our loop-closure type necklaces, the entire length is counted from the tip of the loop all the way to where the loop will sit over the knot or beaded end.  The knot or end-bead is never included in the final measurements as it does not add any extra length.  We also give the width measurement of our necklaces at the widest part of the necklace, which also incorporates the widest bead on the necklaces.

Tips for measuring:
    • Use an existing necklace that you like the size and shape.  Measure it from end to end and compare against the dimensions given for a piece.  If your necklace has a pendant, measure the pendant as well.  Measure both the length from the top of the bail to the bottom-most part and the widest part of the width, and compare your pendant dimensions against our pendant dimensions to have something to relate to.
    • Alternately, you can draw out the dimensions given on paper or card stock, add in about 1″ to the end measurement and draw a line at the exact measurement.  Cut out the paper to the specified length (plus your extra 1″) and width.  Put on your paper necklace and overlap one end over the extra 1″ and tape in place (you may want help with this part to ensure it gets properly lined up), or what I do is flip the necklace around and line everything up in the mirror before I tape it.
Standard Necklace Lengths and Types:
    • Choker:  15″-16″
    • Princess:  18″-20″
    • Matinee:  23″-27″
    • Lariat / Opera:  42″ or more

How are our bracelets / anklets measured?

Our bracelets and anklets are measured fully stretched out from end to end.  When the measurements are taken, they include the clasp and where the clasp actually sits when assembled.  For example, in our loop-closure type bracelets and anklets, the entire length is counted from the tip of the loop all the way to where the loop will sit over the knot or beaded end.  The knot or end-bead is never included in the final measurements as it does not add any extra length.  We also give the width measurement of our bracelets and anklets at the widest part of the bracelet or anklet, which also incorporates the widest bead on the bracelet or anklet.

Tips for measuring:
    • Use an existing bracelet or anklet that you like the size and shape.  Measure it from end to end and compare against the dimensions given for a piece.
    • Alternately, you can draw out the dimensions given on paper or card stock, add in about 1″ to the end measurement and draw a line at the exact measurement.  Cut out the paper to the specified length (plus your extra 1″) and width.  Put on your paper bracelet or anklet and overlap one end over the extra 1″ and tape in place (you may want help with this part to ensure it gets properly lined up).
    • If the bracelet or anklet has a clasp, measure the circumference of your wrist or ankle with a dress-maker’s measuring tape (or a cloth measuring tape), add 1″ to 1.5″ to the measurement and compare to the measurements given.
    • If the bracelet DOES NOT have a clasp (it is a solid bracelet with no way to open, DO NOT measure for, or wear as an anklet), flatten your hand out on the table firmly and use a dress-maker’s tape or cloth tape and measure the circumference of your hand at the widest part.  Usually this is measured across the hand from the last joint of the thumb (closest to the wrist) across the back of the hand  and across the knuckle of the pinky finger and back around to the thumb joint where you started.  Add at least 3/4″ to 1″ to this final number to ensure you are able to slip the bracelet on and off.
Standard Bracelet and Anklet Lengths and Types:
    • Bracelet:  6″-7″
    • Anklet:  8″-9″
