Simple Beaded Cross Necklace on Cotton Cord – Ages 7 +

Materials

7 plastic pony beads

30 inches of 2mm cotton cord

Thick white glue (optional)

Tools

Scissors (to cut string)

Instructions

1.    String one pony bead onto the center of your cord.

2.  Bring the ends of the cord together and thread ends of both cords though a bead.  Seat the bead tightly against the first bead by bringing it down the cord to rest on top of the first bead.  Repeat once more.

3.    Separate ends of cord and thread one bead onto both the left and the right ends of the necklace.

4.    Take the last bead and turn it to match the same direction of the bead in step one (1).  Separate the beads in step three (3) and insert the remaining bead between the beads in step (3).  This action does require a bit of pressure to pop the bead into place.

5.  Bring the ends of the cord together and thread ends of both cords through one bead.  Seat the bead tightly against the other beads, and tie an overhand knot as close as possible to the bead.  This is important because this knot it what holds the last bead (step 4) firmly in place.

6.    Slip the necklace on, and tie an overhand knot with the ends of the cord at desired hanging length (make sure you can still slip it over your head to take it off).  Clip excess cordage from the ends and apply white glue to all the knots if desired.
